One thing to consider is where you will attend. Since more pharmacists will be licensed in the state in which they received their degree, find a college in the state where you would like to practice. If you have always wanted to live on the East Coast, you might consider now the perfect time to move there and study and such colleges as the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, the University of Maryland, and Rutgers University. The East Coast is not the only place to study through a great pharmacy school. On the West Coast, the top school of Pharmacy is hands down the University of California in San Francisco. In the South it is the University of Florida in Gainesville and the University of Texas in Austin. Up North, check out the University of Michigan or the University of Minnesota. For the Midwestern pharmacy student, turn to the University of Illinois in Chicago or the University of Kansas.

If you would be happy in any state, and need more criteria than location, think about a school’s class size and instructor to student ratio. You will want as much individualized instruction as possible. While you will spend the next four years in intense study, there is nothing wrong with a little “fun” time.
